Despite rumors of 'strange doings? at a cabin in Fredericksburg, investigative reporter Dessa Wade books the cottage from which lawyer Charity Dawson disappeared in 2008. Dessa is intent on solving the mystery. Instead, caught in the swirling mist that surrounds the cabin, she finds herself in 1890, in a shootout between the Faraday Gang and a US Marshal.
Marshal Cole Jeffers doesn't believe Miss Wade is a time traveler. He admits she's innocent of being an outlaw but thinks she knows more about the gang than she's telling. When she's kidnapped by Zeke Faraday, Cole is determined to rescue her. He's longed for a woman of his own, and Dessa Wade just might be the one'if she'll commit to the past.

Dessa wasn't the only person swept back in time through the pages of this incredible tale. With A Marshal of Her Own, Linda La Roque has hit my "automatic buy" list.Ms. La Roque does a wonderful job of blending modern day strengths and sensibilities with nineteenth century history, setting, society and morals. She makes the past come alive in this novella. Modern day Dessa Wade is smart, strong, bright and beautiful. Her caring and curiosity prompt her to do whatever it takes to solve a cold case and find what happened to Charity Dawson. And she succeeds in a way she never imagines.
Marshal Cole Jeffers could easily have been the stereotypical 1890's marshal, but he's not. The scenes from his point of view give a fabulous depiction of how a modern woman and a modern world would look like through nineteenth century eyes. Ms. La Roque does a marvelous job of bringing both the past and present characters to life in their different settings. The sights, scents, and sounds of the west are vividly described as are the local customs, clothes and prejudices. The sweetness and intensity of Dessa and Cole's romance took my breath away. I didn't want to put this book down. (I ended up reading it while the Super Bowl was on. And I really like football.) I've read other books by Ms. La Roque. She gets better with each one.
A Marshal of Her Own ended with both a satisfying happily ever after and a hint of more to come. It was the perfect balance which makes me long for the next installment. I hope you'll join me on this time travel adventure by picking up your copy today.

A Marshal of Her Own edition by Linda LaRoque Romance eBooks Reviews
Having read the first in this series (A Law of Her Own), this was a fun continuation. I liked the connection between the two books, in which Dessa, in this story, wants to solve the mystery of the missing protagonist from A Law of Her Own. This author makes you believe that time travel really can happen. If you like historical western romance and time travel, you will find this one page turning.
I've been following the works by the author, so was happy that a sequel to 'A Law of Her Own' came out. The story of the former was quite interesting, and I couldn't wait to see how it would continue. Love this main character just as much. No wonder Dessa was so interested in the disappearance of the former character, Charity. They could've actually been best friends since they have similar attributes.
The previous review goes into detail enough that I will only add just how much I enjoyed all the characters - even the villans! Loved the Marshal though and how his personality remained firm yet at least had the good sense to investigate such a looney idea of time travel. I can only imagine how crazy that sounded back then. Pretty much a stretch for the present time as well. I mean, really! Couldn't really happen - or could it? The story does have an 'open' ending. Lots of possibilities. What's next, Mrs. Laroque?
If you haven't read the first installment, please grab it. Dessa and Charity are both likable women - very gutsy. I can certainly see them working together on a couple of projects. It does make one pause to think just how well you might handle going back to a time period. On the one hand it might seem glamorous, but the reality is an eye-opening thought process. Of course if I could meet someone like Marshal Cole Jeffers, I might find a way to get by!
A Marshal of Her Own by Linda La Roque
I hadn't read any of Miss LaRoque's work before but was pleased to read this novella. It had a really good feel to it, a sweet romance that gently develops. Marshal Cole Jeffers would be charming man to meet if time travelled back to the 1890s, his thoughtfulness in juxtaposition to the toughness of his job-though the reader is never really shown anything of the real realities of his harsh justice. Dessa Wade is a spirited character, yet has times when the situations she encounters shows her vulnerability. She has a big problem to solve- stay in 1890 with a gorgeous hunk of man in Cole, or return to her own time of 2010. Miss LaRoque only hints at her mechanism of time travel, lets you glimpse Cole's incredibly brief period of being in 2010, but makes it clear Cole and Dessa want to remain in Prairie, Texas of the 1890s. It was an enjoyable read!
They don't make men like they used. Luckily for Dessa she has a chance at one of the Wild West's hunkiest marshals. Now all she has to do is stay alive.
Beautiful story about a woman named Dessa Wade investigating the disappearance of Charity Dawson. After renting a the mysterious cottage where Charity disappeared Dessa is thrust over a hundred years in the past to 1890 where she will not only find Charity, but possibly her true love.
Dessa Wade is definitely not some wilting violet and she doesn't let anyone especially not some hundred year old marshal tell her what to do. Marshal Cole Jeffers is somewhat of a typical thought hunky, 19th century man who is used to more delicate and feminine women. Dessa wade is a strange, but wonderful surprise. He has always wanted a woman of his own and after meeting Dessa thinks she might be the one. In order for their happily ever after to happen he must not only keep her from getting killed, but convince her to stay in the past. Their relationship was really sweet and they definitely had chemistry. I think these two characters balanced each other out perfectly. The book had a really good flow to it and the scenes wove together very nicely.
Looking for some hot southern hunk check out Linda Laroque's "A Marshal of Her Own".
